When you experience the people who work at Groovy Glasses, you will realise why our clients keep coming back to us. We’re not loud, or slick – we’re genuinely interested; concerned about doing a good job; and we enjoy a bit of fun. Overall, our aim is to help you feel good about wearing glasses.
It takes the right people to be sensitive to how you might be feeling, and observant about what suits you. So we’ve been careful to select staff members who are naturally suited to these tasks. Trudy McLean

Optometrist/Director

Has worked in the optical industry since 1983. Responsible for overall direction of the business. Good at communicating information. Big Science Fiction and Art Deco fan. Refers to herself as “The Master”.
Favourite saying: “I think we need a staff meeting about that”.
Famous Person You Most Appreciate: Mike Myers (esp “Austin Powers”) and Billie Holiday.

Dirk McBeath

Practice Manager/Director

Has been involved in the optical industry since 1994 when he persuaded his wife Trudy to become her own boss. Has a science background and good problem-solving skills. Known for his ability to hold everything together.
Favourite saying: "I hear what you're saying."

Richard Faloon-Cavander

Optometrist

Richard is a lovely man who is a very experienced optometrist.He's a bit of a greeny,being a vegetarian and a keen cyclist; not only does he cycle to work, he also hops on a bike to get to the airport when catching a plane. Reckons the parking is really easy! Richard brings a very kind,creative influence to the practice. Just as well - how else would he survive when working with so many stroppy women!

Dispensing Optician

Has worked in the optical industry since 1986. Fantastic analytical brain and loves dealing with technical detail. National level squash player, brilliant command of sportspeak. One of only two members of the staff who can still fit into size eight jeans.

Receptionist

Has worked in the optical industry since 1982. Has a great knack for putting people at ease and guiding people toward appropriate frame designs. Lynne is a great asset to the business because of her ability to remember people and recall conversations even years later.

Karen Heppelthwaite

Optical Assistant

Has worked in the optical industry since leaving school in 1976. Has a long history with this business and is appreciated by clients for her genuine, gentle nature and amazing patience when dealing with more demanding situations. Famous for the home baking she brings in to work, even on her days off!

Liz Taylor

Optical Assistant

Has worked in the optical industry since 1993, and prior to that, worked as a nurse. She brings a lovely nurturing personality and great artistic eye to the business. Known for her ability to source great wine and whip up an impressive platter of hors d’oeuvres.
Favourite saying: “Would you like me to make you a REAL coffee, Trudy?”

Judith Adams

Dispensing Optician

Judi is our latest discovery, a Dispensing Optician with a kind heart and patient manner. She is our secret weapon in the fight against stress in the workplace. Take away her garden however and it may be a different story.
